“Thanks, Shahid Khan, for the HRO”
Jaxonpool News with Violent Crawley: Members of the local community today are thanking Shahid Khan, owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team.
According to a source asking to remain anonymous, Khan leaned on Mayor Lennie Curry to not veto the Human Rights Ordinance (HRO). The measure passed the Jacksonville City Council last night by a 12-6 vote. Curry neither vetoed nor signed it, but “passed it along,” a weasily way of allowing it to become law.
A leader of the Jacksonville Coalition For Equality acknowledged the part Khan played in the favorable outcome. Still, he was quick to point out that the Coalition had put not an inconsiderable amount of effort into getting the HRO passed. “What are we, chopped liver?” he asked indignantly when pressed by this reporter.
