@Jaxonpool _______

LB_red%22Dear%22Medicaid girls gone wild: A recent Teen Pregnancy Task Force report found that Baker County—rural and 84% white, with Macclenny for a county seat and streaming Confederate flags, leads not only the state but the entire U.S. in teen pregnancies. I wrote to you about this 20 months ago, that they might have better luck preventing teen pregnancies in Baker County if in sex-ed classes the rhythm method was taught rather than abstinence only: Baker needs rhythm

Let me say that I am opposed to the TLC network filming a new reality TV series in Macclenny to be titled Medicaid Girls Gone Wild. I feel this is inappropriate. The program’s producers claim that teenagers will watch, see how hard it is to be a single teen mom, and be warned away from pregnancy. However, we already know from the MTV program Teen Mom that this strategy did not work.

Dr. Phil recently explored this problem: Teen Mama Drama: Did She Get Pregnant to Get on TV?

Far from being warned, teenage girls watched Teen Mom and wanted to have a baby in hopes of someday being selected to appear onthe program. Why would Medicaid Girls Gone Wild be any different?

Besides, will 16-year-old girls in Macclenny raising newborns really appeal to a national audience? Wouldn’t the show be vaguely insulting, or even depressing, like watching the Beverly Hillbillies, except with the Clampetts not having a mansion or a big lawn or wealthy neighbors or any money?

Sincerely,
